MY FAVORITE SINGER
Selena Quintanilla-Pérez was born in Texas, United States on April 16, 1971. She was a Mexican-American singer of Tejano, ranchera, ballad and cumbia music. Known simply as Selena, she is considered one of the most relevant figures in that musical genre and is known as "the queen of Tex-Mex".
He began his musical career at 9 years old with his brothers Susette and AB Quintanilla; he recorded his first album at the age of 12. She received the Best Female Vocalist award at the Tejano Music Awards in 1987, and signed a recording contract with EMI a few years later. His fame continued to grow in the early 1990s, especially in Hispanic countries. Her album "Selena Live!" he won the Grammy Award for Best Mexican American Music Album in 1993 and his album "Forbidden Love" was nominated for a Grammy Award the following year.
Wife of guitarist Chris Pérez, Selena was shot in the back at age 23 by Yolanda Saldívar, the president of her fan club, who summoned her in room 158 of the Days Inn motel, in Corpus Christi, on December 31, March 1995.
Her life was taken to the cinema in 1997 under the name of Selena, starring Jennifer Lopez, who plays the singer. That same year, on May 25 in Corpus Christi, Texas, El Mirador de la Flor was inaugurated, a place that has a bronze statue in honor of Selena.
In 1998 a museum is opened in his memory. The museum and the statue are visited every week by hundreds of fans.
